Keeping your home clean and fresh can be a breeze with these expert-approved tips for every room. Here’s a guide to help you tackle each area of your house effectively.
Bedroom
Wash Bedding: Machine-wash sheets and blankets regularly. You can also fluff your pillows in the washing machine. For top-loading machines, place two pillows vertically and use the delicate cycle. For front-loading machines, lay the pillows flat.
Air Out the Mattress: Once a week, leave the mattress uncovered to air out. It’s also a good idea to use a protective cover to prevent stains.
Clean Rugs and Curtains: Vacuum rugs and, if the fabric allows, machine-wash them. The same goes for curtains.
Window Care: For wooden windows, use a diluted detergent solution, followed by a wood oil like peroba oil. For iron windows, wipe with a solution of 1 part alcohol vinegar to 5 parts water.
Living Room
Furniture: Wipe down wooden furniture with a damp cloth and use furniture polish. For electronics like TVs and computers, microfiber cloths work best. Use a small brush to clean between the keys of your keyboard.
Vacuum: Vacuum the sofa and blinds using a soft brush attachment.
Dust Walls and Baseboards: Sweep walls, ceilings, and baseboards with a dry broom. For baseboards, follow up with a damp cloth.
Bathroom
Towel Care: Wash bath towels in the machine without fabric softener, as it can make the fibers stiff. Instead, use a cup of alcohol vinegar to remove oils.
Toilet Cleaning: Wipe down the toilet with a cloth dipped in diluted bleach and powder detergent, and let it dry. Pour bleach into the bowl and leave it for 15 minutes before scrubbing and flushing.
Trash Can: Clean the trash can with a sponge and detergent. For shower glass, vacuum the outside and clean the inside with diluted detergent. Rinse and wipe the inside with alcohol vinegar.
Kitchen
Stove and Oven: Scrub the stove's surface with a sponge and detergent, then apply a degreaser and wipe off with a paper towel. For the oven, spread a baking soda and water paste on the walls, and clean with a damp sponge. Wipe down the microwave with a damp cloth and detergent.
Fridge: Spray a detergent-water solution inside the fridge and scrub with a sponge, then wipe down with a damp cloth and dry. Run the dishwasher on a full cycle with a cup of alcohol vinegar, and scrub its interior with a sponge afterward.
Dish Towels: Machine-wash dish towels and tablecloths separately from other laundry.
Range Hood: Use a microfiber cloth with a dirt remover for the range hood. Remove the filter and wash it with detergent.
Laundry Room
Washing Machine: Run a complete cycle with 100 ml of alcohol vinegar. Afterward, remove the soap and softener dispensers and soak them in detergent. Clean the lint filter (check your machine’s manual for instructions) twice a year.
Iron: Use a damp cloth with detergent to clean the base of your iron. Remove the steam outlet and clean it to prevent clogs.
By following these detailed steps, you can ensure every part of your home stays spotless and well-maintained!
